- About Us
Art I is an elective course that provides a general introduction to the visual arts, its language, tools, media and processes. It is designed to build the basic foundation and skills for creating, knowing about, discussing, and appreciating art. Students will be exposed to a variety of studio experiences in drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, and sculpture as well as artists of the past and present and the history of art. The focus at the beginning of the year is on developing strong drawing skills. Additional projects will include printmaking, painting, sculpture, and mixed-media. Through these projects, students will be encouraged to make personal selections of topic and media for the original expression of ideas which communicate concepts/ideas/ thoughts/emotions through their own unique art products. Students will be expected to develop a personal responsibility for art research including artists, works of art, artistic style, and art history. Projects will interweave the four disciplines of art making, art criticism, art history, and aesthetics as well as the National Visual Arts Standards with a focus on problem-solving and decision-making.
