We are happy to announce that Fr. Romen Acero has been selected as the replacement to Fr. Nick, who was reassigned at the end of the last school year. Fr. Romen will be sharing his duties between St. Gabriel’s and our school, allowing us to deepen the already strong relationship between the parish and JPII.
Born and raised in Columbia, Fr. Romen is the oldest of four sons. Starting in a public school through middle school, he transferred to a Catholic high school where he says he felt the calling to pursue a life of faith.
After high school Fr. Romen pursued a Bachelor’s degree in theology from the local university and taught for years. During his teaching days, he says he still felt the calling from God and applied to the monastery.
During Fr. Romen’s time here at John Paul II, he hopes to connect with the students and learn from them and their faith. Fr. Romen is excited for this opportunity to expand his role in the community and continue to work with and learn from his parishioners, which he says is his favorite part about being a priest.
In his free time Fr. Romen enjoys having friends over for dinner and enjoying their company. He loves both Italian and Columbian food. You might even see him at Nino’s here in Greenville, which he says is his favorite restaurant in town.
Both the students and staff at JPII are happy Fr. Romen will be sharing his time with us. We look forward to the upcoming school year and all that these new and exciting changes have to offer.
