Works of Mercy

As a Catholic school community, we orient our students to living a life rooted in the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. In Matthew 25:40, Jesus reminds us that discipleship rests on serving others: “When you did this to the least of my brothers, you did it to me.”

Students at John Paul II Catholic High School are required as part of their participation grade in theology to complete eight hours of Corporal Works of Mercy (service to others).

All events/hours for the 2023-2024 school year are due by May 1, 2024. A student completing the required 8 hours receives a 100 for participation in the last quarter in their theology class. Participation is 20% of a student’s grade. A student who does not fulfill the 8-hour requirement earns a zero.

Below is a breakdown for Corporal Works of Mercy (CWM) requirements:

  • 8 hours of service to community
  • An 8+ hour single event fulfills the CWM requirement
  • Summer service in VBS, mission trips, etc. counts towards CWM
  • Hours are to be submitted electronically to the theology department through the JPII app or website (below).
  • All CWM hours for the 2023-2024 school year are due MAY 1, 2024 FOR ALL STUDENTS
  • The CWM fulfillment is recorded as a theology participation grade in FACTS for the 4th quarter.
  • Students are responsible for finding opportunities in their local community.

St. Mother Teresa once said that, “the fruit of love is service and the fruit of service is peace.” We pray that these opportunities to serve others will create hearts of love and peace for our JPII students.
